Wire Wrapped Jewelry

Wire Wrapped Jewelry is a popular style of jewelry. Featuring a gemstone or large bead, wire is artfully arranged in swirls and loops around, over, and behind the stone. It’s a time consuming endeavor, but makes a beautiful piece of jewelry.

Base metal wires, such as sterling silver and copper of various thicknesses are used to wrap around precious and semi-precious stones. The wire used may be round, square, and there are even pre-twisted wires that can be incorporated into the design. Sometimes we use enamel coated wire, which is tarnish resistant, but can’t be soldered. Typically soldering is not done on wire wrapped jewelry, but sometimes the findings such as jump rings may be soldered, depending on the style of the piece. Typically wire wrapped pieces look gorgeous when allowed to naturally “tarnish” or when chemicals are applied to force tarnishing. After this forced tarnishing, we polish the upper layers. We do this to enhance the design. The deeper parts of the design are darkened and recede to the background while the surface wires are buffed to a shine, making all parts of the design stand out against each other.

These are all unique, one of a kind hand made items. No two exactly alike. We can wrap your special stone for you, please contact us for a quote.
